Steiner Baby and Toddler Groups

These are often attached to Steiner schools but you can still attend even if your child isn't going to the school. There is a natural ethos where the babies and toddlers can play with wooden toys and toys made of natural materials (no plastic!). Snack is home made bread, fruit and real juice rather than biscuits and squash.
Songs are sung in tune with the changing seasons and any planned activities are usually in tune with seasons.

Type in 'Steiner toddler group' into an internet search engine and it will come up with various local groups.

Maths and English Online Tuition with Teacher on DVD's and Teacher on Telephone, ages 4-18

It's pricey but it's good - in addition to lessons on DVD, there is a teacher on the phone if you get stuck and regular online tests. Children can gain certificates for good work to motivate them. One price covers all children in your family and you will receive blank writing books and pencils whenever you run out.

You do need to be in work to apply for the course, unless you can pay the full fee upfront, otherwise it is monthly installments.

Kumon Math and English Classes

At home Math and English tuition.

Your child attends one or two classes with a qualified teacher per week (in a class full of other children), half an hour each subject. Then they complete a 10 to 20 minute booklet on math or English (or both) each day at home.

Teacher will give prizes for good work and the kids can enter competitions.

It is available even if you aren't in work, as long as you can afford the monthly installments.

My youngest daughter learnt to read using the Kumon programme and she now reads at 12 year old level (instead of 9 - her actual age).
