Waterloo Region Public Health has handed out over 600 suspension orders to students who have not updated their immunization records.

The region had warned over 1,700 students on May 1, telling them they had until today to prove they had updated their records.

Linda Black, the manager of the region’s vaccine preventable disease program, says students who have been suspended can return to class once they have proven their records are updated.

“If they come to us and do that, we’ll provide them with a slip and it gets them back to school,” said Black.

Provincial law allows public health departments to suspend students from attending school for up to 20 days or until their immunization records are updated.
